Which templates are your favorite? Visit one of your local craft stores, get a pack of clear shrinky dink sheets, pick a printable template and create a set of awesome crafts or personalized gifts! It’s a wonderful and inexpensive craft material that’s perfect for beginners and kids. These are free printables, meaning you can download and print them as often as you like and create projects for yourself or as gifts for loved ones. I used Canva and a collection of clipart to create them.

You end up with a small rigid piece of plastic that retains the original shape (just smaller) and any colors you’ve applied. The piece will unshrink and unfold flat. Use a chopstick or skewer stick to hold the hole in place so the piece doesn’t go flying when the heat gun is on. Cut out the flat part of your clamshell packaging and draw cute heart shapes on them.

• Opt for containers that offer a larger, flatter canvas for your Shrinky Dinks.
• You can also use any printed image to make shrinky dinks, however these were designed very specifically for this craft.
• We have done freehand drawing and traced coloring book pictures in the past, and both have come out awesome.
• Remove the tape and color the cell with colored pencils.

As the plastic shapes shrink, they will curl up and flatten. As it heats up, it will curl and bend before flattening back out. The shrink plastic will curl initially and then flatten out. Initially, your shrinky dink will curl up, but keep heating, moving the heat gun around, and it will flatten out as more of the shrink plastic shrinks fully. Shrink plastic curls and contorts as you heat it, but flattens itself out again. Usually, the plastic sheet curls up at first but will flatten out as you continue heating and the shrinking becomes more uniform across the shape.

If that happens, press it flat with a spatula while it’s still hot. Sometimes, a piece will still have a little bit of a curl on the edges when you take it out of the oven. Don’t make your pieces too small before baking; it’s better to start out a little larger at first. Gluing magnets or push pins to the back of your Shrinky Dink photo creates a fun way to decorate your refrigerator or corkboard.

You can tape your shrink film to your paper to help keep it from moving! Trace your piece of shrink film on a sheet of paper. You can cut shapes out of the shrink film before you shrink it, as well as punch holes in it for key chains, etc. When they shrink, the colors on your artwork become more condensed, making them darker.

The rougher edges will be less noticeable after you’ve shrunk the image. Use a small pair of sharp scissors to cut out the coloured stamped image. This will help any ink and colour that you apply to the shrinky dink plastic sheets plastic to stick. Take a piece of clear shrink plastic and rub the surface lightly with fine grade sandpaper or glass paper to create a ‘key’. If you want to draw directly on a crystal clear shrink plastic sheet, you need a permanent markers like a archival ink pen.

If any designs remain slightly warped, gently press them flat with a spatula immediately after removing them from the oven. Once your creations have been baked and hardened, double-check that the holes align properly for easy attachment to the keyrings. Before baking your designs, use a hole punch to create a hole in each piece where the keyring will be attached later.
